Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness
This novel-length fanfic chronicles the trials of Neville, Ginny, Luna, and others at Hogwarts during the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While the Chosen One was off on his secret mission, what became of those who followed him? This is the first in a series of stories by this author (known as Thanfiction on FF.net), which consists of three major works, and loads of bonus material in what is known as the DAYDverse. This story (and its sequels, I'm told) is appropriately dark...which just makes it that much more awesome.
One thing of note in this story's place on The Fanfic Skeptic is that it provides a very good example of how to write a story that contains romance (and a fair amount of it) without really falling into the territory of being a Pairing fic. Read and learn, grasshopper.
